At the height of the roaring Twenties Ray Henderson’s “The Best Things in Life are Free” was a popular song. The sentiment applies to the California Center for the Arts, Escondido’s (CCAE) presentation of Highland Way, highlighting Celtic music from Scotland and Ireland, and the occasional cover.
Highland Way is highly free at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2 shows at CCAE. Tickets, however, are first-come, first-served, so it’s best to get there as quickly possible. Doors open one hour prior to show time and shows fill up fast for the First Wednesday concerts, CCAE officials said.
While the show is free, nobody can guarantee admission should the hall fill up fast. A little greenery goes a long way for those who want to know in advance they can attend. For that reason, reserved tickets are available in advance for $12, $10 for CCAE members.

Highland Way has received lots of kudos lately.A native Scot with his Glasgow accent, Brian Caldwell is well known for his ability to charm any crowd. Joining Brian are Paul Graham Castellanos—on fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and banjo—Sharon Whyte on accordion and keyboards, Bob Sale on percussion and drums, Glen Fisher on bass, and master of guitars Jim Soldi.
