Issa, Hunter protests for the week

Scene from Feb. 21 Vista town hall that Darrell Issa refused to attend.

Indivisible San Diego, the network of county groups who have adapted the format and organizing techniques of the guidebook, Indivisible, are targeting Congressional Republicans Duncan Hunter, Jr. and Darrel Issa the week of Feb. 27th. Most actions this week are on Tuesday, Feb. 28th (only 10% chance of rain).

The document was written by congressional staffers who experienced the Tea Party’s impact. They put together the 23-page Indivisible: A Practical Guide for Resisting the Trump Agenda.

Most of the Indivisible groups in San Diego County.

Thousands of groups have formed nation-wide as well as several dozen within San Diego County.  At my last count, there were 44 groups, including 2 in Point Loma and 3 in Pacific Beach – Mission Bay area. (See our post on how Indivisible has exploded in San Diego County and nation-wide.)

The local networks have chosen Tuesdays as their action days to focus on San Diego County’s congressional delegation; plus they have been organizing rallies, town hall and other events. 200 to 300 people attended a town hall at San Diego’s Islamic Center with Rep. Scott Peters, and another 700 joined Peters and Rep. Susan Davis at another town hall.

Here is a statement from the Media Committee of Indivisible San Diego

Indivisible San Diego celebrated its recess week successes by convening strategy meetings, drawing 75 Indivisible group leaders to a county-wide meeting on Sunday.

Representing more than 6000 members in five congressional districts, participants hailed from La Jolla, Coronado, Escondido, Ocean Hills, UCSD, Temecula, Mira Mesa, Hillcrest, Point Loma, Jamul, University City, Rolando Park, Normal Heights, Santee, Alpine, Fallbrook, San Diego Downtown, Scripps Ranch, and Congressional Districts 49, 50, 51, 52, East District 53, North County and others.

Supporting organizations included Together We Will, Solidarity Sundays and Temecula Rises. Large groups also gathered over the weekend for all members of District 52, District 53, Ramona, Scripps Ranch, Hillcrest and San Diego Downtown.

All reveled in last week’s Vista town hall that, even without Rep. Darrell Issa (CA-49), drew more than 1000 people, and the concession by Rep. Duncan Hunter (CA-50) who, after threatening constituents with trespass arrests for visiting his district offices, agreed to hold a town hall in Ramona on March 11.

Here are the Indivisible San Diego events for the week of February 27, 2017.

Indivisible also supports the “O.B. March 4 Impeachment” on Saturday, March 4 at 10 AM at Ocean Beach Municipal Pier. We will join the community at this fun event and register new voters.

Indivisible is not supporting the counter-protest at Saturday’s pro-Trump rally downtown. Trump supporters have the right to rally and Indivisible opposes any efforts to impede or intimidate them. We focus our opposition on Trump, his policies and the politicians who support them, not our fellow citizens.
